The Iowa Corn Indy 250 will be run at the Iowa Speedway on Sunday with a telecast on ABC starting at 2:30 PM ET. Dario Franchitti won the first Iowa Corn 250 in 2007 and repeated the feat in 2009 to make him among the favorites for Sunday’s run. Franchitti is currently 10th in the IndyCar standings and was 25th at Iowa last year, 5th at Iowa in 2011, 18th at Iowa in 2010, and did not run there in 2008.

Other Top Drivers for Iowa
Ryan Hunter Reay is 2nd in the IndyCar standings and was the winner last week at Milwaukee. Reay will be one of the top IndyCar betting favorites for Iowa as he was the winner last year. In recent runs at Iowa Reay was 8th in 2011, 8th in 2011, 19th in 2009, and 8th in 2008.

Fan Favorite Marco Andretti was the winner at Iowa in 2011and finished 2nd at Iowa in 2012. Other recent runs at Iowa include 15th in 2010, 12th in 2009, 3rd in 2008, and 2nd in 2007.

2013 Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan was the winner at Iowa in 2010. He has recent Iowa finishes of 3rd in 2012, 2nd in 2011, 14th in 2009, 18th in 2008, and 16th in 2007.

Helio Castroneves leads the IndyCar standings and was 6th at the Iowa Speedway last year. He has recent runs at Iowa of 7th in 2011, 2nd in 2010, 7th in 2009, 14th in 2008, and 8th in 2007.

Takuma Sato was 4th in the IndyCar standings and has recent runs at Iowa of 12th in 2012, 19th in 2011, and 19th in 2010.

Scott Dixon is 5th in the IndyCar standings and has had close calls at Iowa with recent runs at Iowa of 4th in 2012, 3rd in 2011, 6th in 2010, 5th in 2009, 4th in 2008, and 10th in 2007.

Simon Pagenaud was 6th in the IndyCar standings and was 5th last year at Iowa in his only previous run at the Iowa Speedway.

Today's Milwaukee IndyFest is different in that what happens off the track matters more than what happens on it. After last year's disappointing attendance, it looked like IndyCar's long history at the Milwaukee Mile was about to come to an end. However, Michael Andretti stepped up to promote this year's race. Andretti and his group have done a great job making this is a worthwhile event, from lower ticket prices to a concert after the race (Smash Mouth) and other things to make this look more than a street circuit event (emphasis on event) than a usual oval track race. That said, this is being treated (understandably) as a last chance for Milwaukee. If attendance disappoints, this will likely be it for the one track in the country older than Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IndyCar and its fans will be looking at the crowd with great interest. If it weren't for my CPA Exam obligations and studying, I would've flown to Milwaukee myself and gone.

If Indianapolis and Texas are any indication, this will be another fantastic race. Last week at Texas, IndyCar finally figured out racing on 1.5 mile tracks. By taking away downforce, the cars have become harder to drive, ending the pack racing while still allowing passing. In the end, Justin Wilson won in a shocker for Dale Coyne Racing, taking advantage of Graham Rahal hitting the wall while leading with 2 laps to go (Rahal continued to take 2nd). Wilson's new found oval strength has continued here, as he qualified 2nd. However, he's serving an engine change penalty this week, so he's back in 12th.Wilson is one of seven serving grid penalties for engine changes, including the top two in the points: Will Power and Scott Dixon, as well as rookie Josef Newgarden, who has again been fast. Can he finally put it all together this week? The result of the penalties are fast cars starting mid-pack, which adds another layer of intrigue.

On the pole though is Dario Franchitti. Dario had a horrible race at Texas, missing the set-up completely, having multiple squirrely moments, and finishing 3 laps down. Attrition helped him finish 14th, but he now sits 64 points back of Power. Starting 2nd, thanks to the penalties, is Ryan Hunter-Reay, who is trying to rebound from three straight DNF's. Power will start 14th, with Dixon 21st, and the other not out of it title contenders Helio Castroneves, Simon Pagenaud, and James Hinchcliffe starting 4th, 7th, and 8th respectively.

While Dario on pole is always dangerous, and a potential threat to dominate, my pick for this race is Ryan Hunter-Reay. He's due for some good luck, and he's the top guy this race for Michael Andretti, who has earned good karma for trying to save this race. My darkhorse is Rubens Barrichello. After the engine wouldn't fire at Texas, Rubens has been near the top of the charts all weekend so far, and will start 3rd this afternoon. This looks like an oval track that Barrichello likes, and with his talent and experience, that makes him a threat to win.Coverage starts at 1:00 on ABC, with green flag at 1:30. Mike Conway on racing at Texas: “Previously at Texas,if you had to lift [off the throttle] because you couldn’t keep it flat due to the car’s setup, you went backwards. You have to have a good car and you have to be able to go flat the whole race. If you can’t get that, then you are going to struggle to move forward. We have to work as much as we can on race setup and get it really dialed in. The track is wide and has many different lanes, so we have to have a good car in traffic and one that’s good in all the lanes.”

• No. 14 will incur 10-spot grid penalty due to engine change: The ABC Supply crew will change their Honda engine this week prior to the race weekend. Although close to its scheduled 1800-mile rotation change, the engine is being replaced in the shop rather than after practice at the race track. The No. 14 will be assessed a 10-spot grid penalty after qualifying on Friday.

• The Firestone 550 marks the 24th IndyCar race to be held at Texas Motor Speedway since the inaugural race in June,  1997. The 228-lap race returns to its single race format this year.   There have been 17 different winners in the past 23 races with Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr. the only 3-time winners.

• Past performance at Texas: Conway’s debut at Texas in 2009 was plagued with gearbox issues, so he started and finished 19th; he didn’t race there in 2010 because he was recovering from injuries sustained at Indy. In 2011, there were problems during pit stops so his best finish of 17th came in the second race last year. The Foyt team’s best finish at Texas came in 1998 when they won with Billy Boat. The year before Boat had taken the checkered flag first but USAC Scorers ruled that he finished second and gave the win to Arie Luyendyk the next day (but Foyt still has the trophy).

• ABC Supply roofing customer, Clear Fork Roofing, located in Abilene, TX, won the ‘Your Name Here’ contest for the Firestone 550 at Texas. The company name will be atop the sidepods of the No. 14 ABC Supply Dallara/Honda. Guests Gary Day and Laurie Bramlett will receive selected merchandise, race tickets, hospitality and garage passes, plus a Meet and Greet with A.J. Foyt and Mike Conway.

• Cosme Meza will be the ABC Supply Honorary Crew Member of the Race this weekend. Meza works in San Antonio as a truck driver for the Company which has employed him since 2005.

• ABC Supply will entertain over 500 guests at Saturday’s race. Prior to 2012, the company had entertained over 35,000 guests at IndyCar races since it began sponsoring A.J. Foyt’s team in 2005.

• The Firestone 550 will be shown live at 8:00 p.m. ET Saturday, June 9 on the NBC Sports Network.
